What seems at first glance to be a very daring composition of objects made of different materials reveals itself on closer inspection to be a balanced interplay of forces and energies that interpret space, emptiness and material differently. Material Void presents three natural objects known as Scholar’s Rock (Gōngshí供石or Suiseki水石), stones from the collection of CHANG Tsong-zung juxtaposed with nine sculptural works by the German artist Tobias KLEIN.
The stones are expressive spatial objects with a special form, colour and texture. Wild, rough and impetuous, the stones shape the space around them. They are combined with objects made of blown glass and 3D-printed synthetic polymer. These works produced in 2020 appear delicate, filigree, yet compact and playfully define the void they create.
